BYU’s Museum of Paleontology


A little known museum funded by BYU is a paleontology museum that houses fossils from several locations such as Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. You can visit some of the dinosaur discoveries by BYU scientists free of charge – and Scouts can even earn a merit badge here!

Provo Pioneer Village

Based on the frontier village that the pioneers constructed in the mid-1800’s, the park is set up to showcase the lifestyle and artifacts utilized by the pioneers. The village is free of charge and open most holidays – visit their website for park hours.

Tube the Provo River

provoriver4Grab a tube and float down the Provo River for about 5 miles of cool and refreshing adventure. You’ll float from Deer Creek Reservoir to Vivian Park and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you drift through the canyon. While this is a free activity if you’ve got the gear, you’ll want to be sure and rent anything you need from the outfitters located at the river.

Fifth Water Hot Springs in Diamond Fork Canyon

sfhotpotsLocated in Diamond Fork Canyon near Spanish Fork, these natural soaking pools (also known as the hot pots) are a perfect little adventure for when you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. A 2.5 mile easy hike will get you to a waterfall and several gorgeous warm-water pools – and best of all? It’s free!

BYU’s Monte Bean Life Science Museum

bean museumThe Bean Life Science Museum located on BYU campus houses a multitude of fantastic beasts and creatures for your viewing. Recently renovated, this museum is impressive with some of it’s specimens – including a Kodiak bear! Admission is free and scheduled events are frequent. Check out their 3D tour here:
