When it comes to exploring the great outdoors, few states compare to the activities Utah has to offer. The great state has a wide variety of outdoor activities from world-renown ski slopes to hiking the Red Rocks to even river rafting. Outdoor adventurers will fall in love with Utah, as there is always some new outdoor activity to partake in.
Here are seven of the best outdoor activities in Utah:
- Rafting Cataract Canyon
Inside Canyonlands National Park, the Cataract Canyon stretches across the Colorado river. The white-waters are the perfect place for the ultimate river rafting experience, as most treks take up to five days to float through the Canyonlands 100 miles. Camping is available year around, allowing rafters the chance to experience the waters year around, which change seasonally.
- Greatest Snow on Earth
Utah is famous for its snow, precisely why it’s called the “Greatest Snow on Earth.” In fact, the snow dumps so much throughout the season that there have been years when skiers could still ride the slopes as late as July 4th. In fact, even suburban communities like Herriman Towne Center can receive substantial amounts of white powder.
One of the best hiking areas in the U.S. has to be the hike to Angels Landing inside of Zion National Park. The hike is a steady climb—440m climb to be exact—from the bottom of the Zion Canyon to Angels Landings. While the hike is narrow, especially at the final stretch, and not for those afraid of heights, the view is absolutely worth it.
- Hiking the Arch
The Delicate Arch is a hiking landmark. Located in Arches National Park, the hike is only three miles round trip. Though the arch is named “delicate,” there is nothing delicate about it. The arch is significant in size and sturdy in structure.
- Mountain Biking in the Canyonlands
Mountain biking through the White Rim Trail in the Canyonlands is an activity that should not be overlooked. The trail is 100-miles, and while some hardcore bikers choose to do it one day, most take a few days to get through the trail in order to enjoy the scenery, camp near the Colorado rivers, and see the incredibly wildlife.
- Fly Fishing
One of the best areas to fish is fly fishing on the Green River, which is in the northern part of Utah. Not only is the area known for having an abundance of trout, as most fly fishers can see them swimming through the clear water, it is also one of the most peaceful, scenic spots to fish.
- Sailing the Great Salt Lake
The sunsets that overlook the lake are some of the best in the world, making sailing the salty lake absolutely worth it. Some believe that the salt in the water offer a better reflection of the sunset, creating an intensely brilliant sunset.
When exploring Utah, do not miss out on any of these outdoor adventures!
