During the summer, even though they have been counting down the days ’til it would arrive, most kids find themselves incredibly bored, which can lead to whining, complaining, and parents who are ready to tear their hair out.
Thankfully, Utah is full of family-friendly activities that are perfect to curing those boredom blues. From trampoline parks to water parks to museums, there is no shortage of activities to be apart of in Utah.

Utah is filled with interesting libraries that have fun classes, activities, and exhibits perfect for entertaining kids. While the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake, which is the largest library of its kind in the world, there are also libraries available specific to various housing communities in the area that also offer plenty of activities. For instance, the library located in Herriman towne center is known for its dedication to kid-friendly classes.
- Natural History Museum
This museum is full of Utah’s natural history, offering kids a great sense of insight into the background of their native state. There are dinosaur exhibits that include interactive activities like dinosaur digs, as well s other interactive activities, such as basket weaving.
- Discovery Gateway
Another museum, the Discovery Gateway is a place for children to enjoy interactive explorations. The Media Zone is one of the most popular areas, for kids can learn how to anchor the news. There is also a kid-sized town that let’s kids have endless hours of creative fun.
- Hogle Zoo
The Hogle Zoo differs from traditional zoos, as it offers up-close animal encounters. Visitors can even feed some of the zoo animals, even the giraffes. You do have to sign up for these activities in advance, so be sure to get your name in before all the spots fill up!
- Salt Lake Temple and Tabernacle
Though Mormons are the only ones allowed inside of the actual temple, visitors can access the grounds, which often has concerts going on throughout the summer. For those who appreciate music, make sure to visit when the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is performing, for there is nothing like hearing the lilting voices with the accompanying organ, which has thousands of pipes.
- Olympic Snowflake Fountain
Located at the Gateway Mall, the Olympic Snowflake Fountain is a fun attraction for kids, especially during the hot summer months. The fountains dance around in different patterns, making it fun for the kids to guess where the water is going to go next.
- Liberty Park
Liberty Park is one of Utah’s most popular parks, as it has areas for duck feedings, volleyball courts, swimming, rides, and plenty of space for relaxing on a blanket.
- Downtown Farmer’s Market
There’s nothing like the fresh produce and fun treats the Farmer’s Market has available during the summer months. It’s both free and packed full of produce!
